--- Only it's at most two minutes later when Green joins him - not from where Red is expecting, however, considering Green comes down from the sky on Pidgeot's back, easily hopping off the pokemon when they land. ]
Start from the beginning. [ He gets the first word out before anything. ] When'd you realize?
[ Either by foot or sky works because Red isn't keeping still. He doesn't for about a handful of seconds, and then he's making his way (downtown) along the street with his jacket shielding him from the light rain, eyes wide like a venonat's in a fruitless search for Charizard's pokéball.
It's the sounds from above that stop him, but he's rushing over, stopping before the pair. Green's words remind him to breathe first. ]
Outside a store with cats. We'd been out together there [ he turns his head back over to the building with a sign sitting outside it, banners of each side of the double doors ] and then I put him in my pokéball 'cause it was raining harder. I was gonna ask him if he was hungry, then when I went for him--
[ His eyes squeeze shut and aggravation slips through the cracks of his teeth, and his balled up fists pull tightly instead on the hair of his fringe as he shakes his head wildly. ]
I'm so stupid, I should have noticed before!! I didn't put him back properly and he fell when I got knocked into! I can't believe I did this to him!
[ Green takes that all in. He doesn't often put faith in other people; if anything, it's a skill he's slowly learning now, ever since the events on Macha. But he can trust Red to know that the boy wouldn't just go and lose a pokeball. He might be stupid, but he's not that stupid.
Which means - ] What did you get knocked into?
[ Things are starting to make sense faster and faster. The first thing Green does is pick up the second pokeball on his belt, throwing it in a graceful arc beside him. After a bright light comes Pidgeot, shaking the water off his feathers. ]
[ He lets go of his hair, lets himself breathe; but it doesn't help any of the spiked anxiety in his body. ]
Some person. [ He didn't see; the fog's been around all day and so nearly has the rain too. But it doesn't stop his eyes from scanning around their area now, just on the chance that the ball is there.
But he looks up when he sees the light, and-? ]
Pidgeot? [ The why is implied. Would his eyes be better in this fog? ]
Do you remember anything about this "some person". [ His voice is still to the point, serious, authoritative in the way that a new found gym leader can be (ha.). But underneath it all is a dry, "are you kidding me" sort of tone that hasn't completely reared its head yet, mostly because Green can't believe of all the things that the champion of Kanto can be fooled by... ]
Arcanine doesn't like getting wet. [ The accuracy's the obvious one here, one that he doesn't even bother mentioning. Instead he turns to the bird, locking eyes with his teammate. ] We're looking for Charizard.
Or anyone holding onto Charizard's pokeball. If you find Charizard, lead him back to where we are. If you find the ball, come back and find us first.
Got it? [ There's a cry from the avian before he spreads its wings, taking off in a zoom. ]
It was too foggy; I didn't see them. [ Frustration slips back into his tone. Why was Green asking. ] Come on Green, they couldn't have anything to do with this. We just knocked into each other!
[ He would have felt it if the ball was tugged from his belt if Green's continuing on the point for the reason Red thinks he is -- there's no way he wouldn't have. The idea was stupid.
As for the next words out of Green's mouth, well. Green's pokémon, Green's choice; Red doesn't ask any further. He watches the creature leave, then he's back to lamenting the situation. His feet are walking again. ]
And this is why I think you're an idiot. [ He rolls his eyes, exasperated at Red's sheer willingness to trust everyone he comes along. ] I don't think anyone we've seen already would've done it, but we have newbies here, don't we? People don't just bump into each other and walk away - they either tell you to watch it, or apologize. Or something.
'sides, the new guy probably saw Charizard, and thought it'd be cool to have one too. [ Does he really have to explain this, really?
Once Pidgeot's gone he watches in silence as Red walks back and forth, weight resting on one foot. There's a pause, then - ]
[ BUT THE MAGIKARP SELLER WAS A TRUSTWORTHY LOOKING GUY, GREEN. ]
But- they did say that! They told me to watch it!
[ It's the last defence that he'll give, but it doesn't mean that he wants to convict a stranger of a crime they can't be sure of. Nevertheless, it adds to the sickening churning in his stomach that already makes his tongue taste bitter, imagining Charizard being in the hands of someone else. Red looks over to Green when he speaks again and gives a short sound of acknowledgement, and he'll follow, but with a mind half elsewhere than on his company.
If anyone else at all found him, just thought him a tool, hurt him - it would all be on him. It already was. ]
