[ “Kinda like animals”? There’s no need for further explanation in regards to that when he can see Arcanine right in front of him, but it makes Barnaby all the more curious as a result. Even so, he knows that he has to try not to ask too many questions at once—he’s curious, but he doesn’t want to be rude either.

The explanation of the battling seems to satisfy Barnaby, but there’s one thing that still seems to stand out to him. ]

Why do you and your Pokemon fight? Is it the competition aspect that you enjoy, or something else?

[ Those are some philosophical questions.

This one takes a moment or two longer for Green to formulate a response, eyes flickering to his partner every so often. He wants to just agree that it's the competition, but then that's not quite right. But mentioning everything else is .... unnecessary. Friendships and bonds between a trainer and their team isn't exactly the most exciting thing he could mention. ]

Mostly competition. [ He eventually speaks up though, nodding. ] A lot of it is trying to prove yourself to other people, how well you trained your team. If you're good enough, fame and glory comes along a little later.

There's also ... Hm. Nah, it's mostly the competition. [ Yeah, he's not mentioning the bond stuff. ]

[ That doesn't sound like the tone of a man convinced. But for one reason or another Green doesn't seem to want to get into the details of whatever else it is that this entails, so Barnaby decides that it may be better to drop the subject and move on to something slightly different. While he understandably doesn't seem to want to talk about everything, surely he can get something out of him? ]

Is the fame and glory what you're after?

Yeah. [ Green's smart enough to pick up on the tone, but he doesn't elaborate; the guy didn't ask, anyway. While he's more than happy to talk about pokemon and the rules his world operates on (he's starting to sound more like his gramps, he's unsure how to feal about that), some topics are on a strictly need to know basis.

Especially the ones that touch on his short comings. ] Used to be, I guess.

[ Speaking of sensitive topics - looks like Barnaby's managed to land himself right in the middle of one, which Green carefully navigates through using well chosen words and a masked expression. ]

Not so much now. [ He has enough of that already, he'd rather take a break from it. ] Believe it or not, I'm actually happy with where I stand. [ Green eyes flicker over to Arcanine, before returning to the man. ] I'm not "after" anything.
